And in the beginning of the movie Max Mercy is reading a newspaper telling the Whammer how two athletes had been killed with a silver bullet.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14266728969291001085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722481122721646885.post-4859856793924729482018-12-25T15:42:42.580-08:002018-12-25T15:42:42.580-08:00This piece is amazing. It makes Hobbs more of a winner when mentioned along such "also rans." Maybe you should have worked Hillary into your story.Sam Simpsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10925709579011915012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722481122721646885.post-65892520480848193162016-12-02T14:24:01.975-08:002016-12-02T14:24:01.975-08:00As a lover of this film and having studied it for ...As a lover of this film and having studied it for so many years, I was curious. It started of with a few interesting fill ins, but got so corny, so quick. I was yelling "Come ON!!" every paragraph. The whole thing totally "jumped the shark" at "Return to Baseball" and just kept on "jumping the sharks" from there. Tone it WAY down to keep it semi-believable. Way to throw in your own political affiliations too. Like anyone cares. I alluded today to the fact that I thought Donald Trump was an everyman like Roy Hobbs. It turns out I was right.Thank You.hubert rainfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10831091737197759494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722481122721646885.post-80615455969894390732015-02-15T18:26:52.887-08:002015-02-15T18:26:52.887-08:00I loved that you mention Paul Wellstone, a brillia...I loved that you mention Paul Wellstone, a brilliant and great man that was gone to soon. Seems this has to be a reference to the three pitched balls bet between Max Mercy and Sam Simpson at the whistle stop. Is it possible Gus Sands had Harriet Bird shoot Roy Hobbs? I've never heard anyone speculate on this.ChipRaptorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10549872408481060699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7722481122721646885.post-47477064537656681482013-05-19T14:21:32.096-07:002013-05-19T14:21:32.096-07:00Excellent piece Mike. After the movie was done, it would have been nice to have received a call that they were making the sequel that you outlined in your blog. Almost 30 years later, I am still waiting for the call from Hollywood. Thank you for writing such an interesting article. Robert Rich A.k.a.
